To measure your RV awning, you can use a tape measure to measure the distance from the center of one awning arm to the center of the other arm: 

1. Place the tape measure's middle on the center of the front arm 
2. Walk the tape measure back to the center of the rear arm 
3. Round up to the nearest whole foot 

The measurement you get is the size of your awning, and you can use it to order replacement fabric. The fabric will usually be 9–12 inches shorter than the awning measurement. It's important to measure the distance between the arms, rather than measuring the fabric itself, because the fabric size is determined by the distance between the arms. Measuring the fabric can lead to a replacement canopy that doesn't fit the awning's hardware.

1. Pictures of all four sides of your RV.
2. A clear picture of the VIN Number to identify the RV for the insurance company.
3. Detailed pictures of the damage to the awning system. These will be crucial for determining what needs to be replaced and what the insurance company will cover.
4. Additionally, check other awnings on your RV, such as slide-out toppers, window awnings, and over-the-door awnings, and provide additional pictures, if necessary.
